Well, here we go!! To say I'm excited about what 2012 will bring for PPP is an understatement. I absolutely can't wait to see what new heights, widths and depths we might reach this year.

Here is an idea of whats in the pipeline for 2012:

~ Firstly, our new catalogue with a great array of new designs and a selection of new products is due to be released at the beginning of February. I'm loving working with the new designs; they make me smile. Stay tuned...

~ You'll continue to find us at Salamanca Market roughly every 2nd Saturday, as well as at our usual Artisan markets throughout Tasmania, and hopefully a couple of interstate markets thrown into the mix as well.

~ We'll be returning to amazingly beautiful Life Instyle in Melbourne in August this year; hoping to extend our pool of stockist even further.

~ And, I'm excited to say, we are looking into a new product range. It's a little early to say too much more just yet, but it's something I've always been interested in and have been bursting to expand into. Fingers crossed that it all comes together.

One week 'til....

With one week 'til Christmas I have been reflecting on what a MASSIVE year it has been for me and Pili Pala. I've had a baby, run a market, kept my other baby (Pili Pala) ticking along, designed a mass of new and lovely products, and expanded the Pili Pala brand into every state in the country (o.k. - we haven't made it into the N.T. just yet, but 6 out of 7 is pretty good, right?!).

So, whats next? Well, a new range is due to be released in February 2012 and it's well underway. But first, a little break at the beginning of January to spend in the sun, camping, swimming and enjoying the world.

Finally - I would like to wish you a very happy Christmas and to say thank you to you. Thanks for your support and for being interested in what I do. I can't believe that I left my full-time (stable and sure-thing) profession 2 years ago to take this on! I'm so grateful that this is what I get to do, and still find it hard to believe that this is my job. Heres to another year of fun times at the Pili Pala headquarters.

We'll be off to Salamanca Market this Saturday, closely followed by the extraordinary and ever-popular The Market (at the Hobart Masonic Hall) on Sunday (note; there are different stallholders on each day of The Market this weekend). It's going to be a massive weekend and I can't wait.

And yes, our little cloud brooches and earrings will be available at both markets (limited editions and numbers).

I know, I've been slack! My blog has been neglected and my reason's are your general run-of-the-mill excuses! Running a business, coordinating a market and wearing my Mummy hat is definitely a juggling act that I am yet to master. We've been here, there and everywhere in the last few months with a wedding in Byron Bay, family trips to Cradle Mountain, Melbourne and Coles Bay and busy schedules for both my husband and I in our own businesses - I don't feel like we've had time to breath. But alas, it's the festive season once again and new products are on my mind at the Pili Pala factory as the '8-weekends-in-a-row-of-markets show' begins....

Niche - all wrapped up is holding its MASSIVE (I should increase the size of that font to about '60' to emphasize what I mean by 'Massive') Christmas market this Friday evening 4:00 - 8:00 and Saturday 10:00 - 3:00 and it's set to be swarmed by the locals.

In the festive spirit, and wanting to bring something new and exciting to the table, I have created a new range called 'Up, Up and Away' featuring all things 'up in the air'. First off is a range of Tasmanian Blackwood resin earrings with 4 designs to choose from. At this stage, everything is a trial run to gauge the response from my lovely customers before making them available to my stockists in February next year.

Next Saturday is the final Barn Market for 2011 with our HUGE Christmas Market - also set to be a biggie with every last inch of inside and outside space jam-packed with stallholders. That's sure to keep local Hobartians ticking off their Christmas shopping lists.

After that its off to Salamanca weekly in the build up to Christmas as well as a trip to the lovely The Market on Sunday 11th December.

Cushions!

Finally - a weekend off for Pili Pala!! We have enjoyed time at home, pulling up weeds and watching movies. Bliss! In fact, we have got another weekend off next week as my very best friend and her family comes to visit from Sydney!

But alas, the work doesn't stop. We are slowly but surely filling orders picked up from the trade show and sending Pili Pala goodies left, right and centre around Australia. It's very exciting!

Sally's cushion - made from a 'Fly Away Peter' tea-towel.

Last week at Niche (which was again another bumper market) we met up with Sally - a regular at the Launceston markets. She explained how she had been so inspired by the cushions that I had out as samples at the recent Apron Market, that she had gone home and created a cushion for her Dad out of a tea-towel. She was initially a little reluctant to tell me she had done this as she knew Pili Pala was releasing our own cushions later in the year (I've just given the seamstress the go ahead to get sewing), but I couldn't be more pleased that she liked them so much that she made her own. It reassures me that cushions are definitely the way to go. The above photo is look at what Sally made! Lovely!

The below images show you the cushions that will be released in about a month or so - just in time for Christmas. They will only be available at markets and are 100% natural linen with a zipped closure. Yippeee! Niche time!!

Yes, we are crazy here at Pili Pala; Life Instyle, a huge day at The Market and then Niche this weekend, all within 2 and a half weeks. But, we love it!

If you live in northern Tassy, you will not want to miss 'Niche - all wrapped up' this weekend at the Tramsheds in Launceston this Friday and Saturday. This market is always MASSIVE with beautiful wares bursting from the seams of the great Tramsheds venue. The attendance at Niche never ceases to amaze me in addition to the unending flow of friendly, happy and incredibly supportive customers. And, best of all, 20% of all sales from each and every stall goes towards St Giles (where they purchase useful and much needed equipment for children with special needs). Do you need any more excuses?? Make sure you come by to say 'hello' and show me all the goodies you have discovered. See you there...

Well, we're back from Melbourne at the super busy, overwhelming, amazing, brilliant Life Instyle trade show. We had great feedback and picked up an array of very lovely new stockists. So, now it's heads down and time to get busy making, making, making.

We are looking forward to the ever-popular The Market this Sunday. This market is so beautiful, and it's nice to be going back to our roots; the market where Pili Pala began. Make sure you pop by - you won't regret it and you'll be sure to find a goodie or two.

So, it's full steam ahead and a busy time here at the PPP head quarters, but also extremely exciting!!

Well, it's been a long but exciting 2 days so far at Life Instyle. The response has been amazing and we have picked up a fantastic new selection of stockists. The feedback on our stand display has also been overwhelming and, to be honest, a bit of a relief with all the planning and thought that has gone into it. In fact, we have consequently been featured on the Life Instyle blog; very exciting indeed!!

With 2 days to go still, it looks like I'll be a busy little munchkin when we finally get back to the workshop. No rest for the wicked! (Photos to come next week - or check out our facebook page).

Well, it's here! This week Pili Pala is off to Melbourne to exhibit at Life Instyle. Feeling very much like teeny tiny plankton in a big fish world, this will be a massive step for us. It's quite daunting and overwhelming, and quite frankly I'd just like a quiet minute to myself, but the questions in my head never seem to stop; how will our stand scrub up?, will our new big logo stay on the wall?, will anyone want to stock us?, what do you talk about for 4 days straight?, what will I wear?, and, most importantly, will I get to sky dive when it's all over? (a 'present' from my husband for my 30th birthday that will be determined by the weather). Well, with a 'to do' list that is getting much smaller, I must be off to take a few deep breaths and let be whatever will be. Wish us luck...

I'll endeavour to post a few photos of the event once it's all up and running. Bye for now.

Life InStyle... the journey begins

Last year I attended Life InStyle in order to have a sticky beak at all the talent Australia has to offer in terms of boutique homeware, lifestyle and giftware brands! The standard of creativity and design left me in awe! Since then I have been hoping and dreaming that Pili Pala could be a part of this amazing event that would ultimately expose me to a wider range of stockists and take the label to a whole new level. Well, back in May I applied, and I got accepted and now it's full steam ahead. With only 4 weeks left, there is still a HUGE amount to do and it's very overwhelming but, I'm pleased to report, it is slowly starting to fall in place. The trickiest thing is coming up with a concept for the design of my 3 x 3 meter space and then working out the logistics of getting the props/products/family over to Melbourne. So, it's onwards and upwards and one step at a time. Wish me luck....

It seems that we have a need to increase the Pili Pala stock level in order to keep up with the demand at markets and with stockists; therefore we need to have at least 1000 pendants in stock at any one time. My plan is to get 120 (or so) pendants made per week for the next 8 weeks in order to achieve this goal. How do you think we'll go? Perhaps 120 doesn't seem like a lot, but there are 8 individual steps that go into making each and every tile pendant, and often drying time in between some of the steps is required too! And then you have to allow for some 'duds' that occur during each step.

We've currently got 146 on the go this week. Onwards and upwards!!

Busy, Busy...

Here at Pili Pala there is a lot of new and exciting prospects on the horizon. In recent weeks we have picked up 2 new stockists; E for Ethel, a new boutique store opening up in Adelaide shortly, and the very lovely Rosehip & Co in Richmond. We've also been accepted into The Apron Market in Launceston in July. VERY exciting!!

Plus we just received some MASSIVE news which we can't let out of the bag just yet, but we can say it will be a very grown-up step for Pili Pala! Stay tuned!

Just under 1 week until Niche all wrapped up in Launceston. I LOVE this market!! There are so many talented Artisans that exhibit at Niche so if you're in the area, make sure you don't miss it. And the best thing is that 20% of sales goes straight to St Giles to put towards equipment for children with special needs.

It starts on Friday night at 4.00 - 8.00 and runs again on Saturday from 10.00 - 4.00.

New Logo

Pili Pala's business plan this year includes going just a little bit more pro and ideally branching out to include a much bigger list of stockists. So, I thought it was time to rebrand and jazz up my logo. I found an amazing graphic designer (Donnas Creations) who helped me out and worked so patiently with me, and who has created this little gem of a new logo. What do you think??

I must explain that 'Pili Pala' is Welsh for butterfly, so the image in the background on the logo is an abstract celtic butterfly!! La di da!!!

It's on again - the first Barn Market for 2011. This will be Pili Pala's last market for a few weeks due to the pending birth of the little bambino in about a month or so. However, that doesn't mean that there isn't a lot going on behind the scenes. In fact, there is a whole collection of new designs and products in the works - some of which will be making a 'sneak peak' appearance on the blog in the next few weeks.

The Christmas Countdown!

I can't believe it's December and that I quit/retired/left my job as a Health Professional one year ago to pursue my passion for 'handmade'. I've survived and actually Pili Pala is thriving. I have a handful of very lovely stockists, an online shop and regular appearances at markets and I have managed to stay afloat - amazing (very thankful)!! I only have 2 more markets for 2010 (both Salamanca - can't wait) and then it's full-steam ahead into 2011.

I'll continue to attend Salamanca every second weekend until the baby is born and will also co-manage The Barn Market. As for what will happen when the baby makes an appearance, well... we'll just wait and see. I'll continue stocking my stockists, but perhaps slow down a little on the market side of things (maybe, if I can stay away!).

Anyway, below is a few photos from The Market 2 weekends ago - and please note (and make a big fuss of) the little, slightly battered, brother to my famous big green meatsafe. (I was SO excited when I found the smaller version of my meatsafe - I probably paid too much for it, but I definitely wasn't going home without it!!)

One big weekend

Wow!!!! Thats about the only word to sum up the 3 days that were Niche - All Wrapped Up and The Market.

There was a massive turn out at both markets and a great response to the Pili Pala products. Thank you to those of you who lined up and waited patiently to make it to the stall and to all of you who made purchases and even placed orders. There were so many beautiful products on offer from the array of stallholders at both events, however, unfortunately I was so busy I didn't get a chance to buy any goodies for myself. I didn't even take many photos - I'll upload a few soon, but for now, peruse the reviews on the blogs from the respective markets (above).

Now to make up some orders and get ready for another Saturday at Salamanca... tis the season to be jolly!

Well after some time of absence from the world of blogging - I'm back!! It's not that I haven't been busy - in fact, I'm getting busier every week, especially as the Christmas season is now upon us. Instead of boring you with an essay of what Pili Pala has been doing, here's a little collection of photos to sum it all up:

Possibly my biggest excuse for being a little tardy with my blogging: Yes - baby no. 2 is well and truly on the way ~ due in March.

Finally - after much work (and a whole lot of weird codes) - the Pili Pala Pieces online shop is up and running. It still needs a little prettying up but the basics are there. So spread the word far and wide and start shopping up a storm - all from the comfort of you home. Ahhh!

Along with our regular appearances at Salamanca Market every 2 weeks, I have been preparing for a MASSIVE weekend of markets coming up in 3 weeks. Pili Pala will be at 'Niche - All Wrapped Up' at the Inveresk Tramsheds in Launceston on Friday 19th and Saturday 20th November. It's set to be a biggie!

My 2 days in Launceston is quickly followed by a Christmas event at 'The Market' on Sunday 21st November. Last year this market was an outstanding success, so I can't wait!

If you haven't heard, we are running a special European Christmas market for 2 hours on Friday night, followed by our usual market on the Saturday. Melbourne Trade Shows

Well, I've been on a sneaky little trip to Melbourne for 3 days to check out the 3 trade shows currently in action. I fell in love with Life In Style where there was a more boutique feel and some of the displays were to die for. I spent most of my time at Life In Style drooling over designers and labels that I LOVE. I met Dani Rosen from Dan300 and almost couldn't speak because she is so lovely and in control and knowledgeable, etc, etc, and I also popped into some of my other 'brand idol's' such as Elk, NancyBird, Love, Poppies for Grace, Polli, Pigeonhole and the list goes on and on and on...

Can you tell that I was just slightly in awe of my little trip to see some of the bigger scale designers and brands that I love. I also checked out some of the new kids on the block at First In Style where newbie designers are assigned a little booth where they can present their new products for the first time - I'd love to think the Pili Pala Pieces might make it there one day. One day.........

Double Whammy

I have been slightly tardy with my posts of late, but perhaps you might understand why now? I am doing Mathilda's Market AND Salamanca market tomorrow. Hmmm!! Should be interesting. I'll be at Mathilda's meeting all the yummy mummy's and thier tribes while the lovely Vanessa (thanks a million) will be at Salamanca for me.

I think I've managed to split my stock in half evenly, and come up with enough props for both markets, however I only wish I had 2 meatsafes.

If anyone ever see's a green (or any other colour for that matter - I'm that desperate) meatsafe with round vents, please, PLEASE let me know. Or better still, buy it and I'll buy it off you!!

Anyway, there are a few final bits and pieces to put together and then I'm off to bed. Yawn!

Multiple Market Mayhem

Yes, it's a bumper weekend for me. I'm off to Salamanca on Saturday and then The Market on Sunday and I'm super excited. And, looks like the timing couldn't be better - our car rego renewal just came in (hhhmmff!).

Ooooo, and the most exciting news is that this weekend I will be showcasing my new vintage designs available on scrabble tiles, tassy blackwood tiles and tassy blackwood window pendants. They really make me smile and feel all fuzzy inside - so I hope they will be a success. Fingers crossed! I'll post some photos of the new designs next week.

I hope to see you out and about this weekend - there will be goodies galore! Enjoy the rest of the week.

Break time

It was my birthday last Friday which coincided with a lovely little family holiday up to Shearwater in northern Tassie. We had a fantastic and relaxing time; swimming, eating (a lot), shopping and exploring! My birthday was perfect with a gourmet hot breakfast, shopping, a visit to an oversized antique shop (which resulted in a handful of amazing finds that will make their way into Pili Pala very soon), lunch out, a swim and then dinner cooked by my husband - aaahhhh!!

We also squeezed in a visit to 3 of my lovely stockists up North - more on them later this week....

So, now it's back into it - and full-steam ahead. From this weekend until the end of July I have a market (or two) every weekend. I have managed to score a site at Salamanca for 3 out of 5 Saturdays during July from a permanent site holder who is taking a break, and then hope to secure a casual site on the Saturday's in between. Pili Pala will also be attending The Market at the Masonic Hall (I can't wait to be back there) and Matilda's Market as well. Plus, to top that off, I'm in the threws of finalising a new catalogue with several new ranges of products. So, it's go go go here and all very exciting. But I love every minute of it.

The Barn Market

Well, thats another Barn Market notched up! We had a record turn-out despite the rain and enjoyed a fun-filled day. Everything certainly seemed to click into place this time and it was so much easier to organise. I love the stallholders that take part in the Barn Market - their wares are amazing, they display their products beautifully and they are all so lovely to chat to throughout the day. Pili Pala Pieces had a good day too and I just loved the vibe.

1) Salamanca was a huge success this week. Despite the rain, the shoppers kept coming and even began purchasing multiples of products (sure, go for it). I met some very lovely people, many of whom were on holidays, and accepted some nice comments about my new 'window' jewelery range. Yay! Above is me looking a little chilly and not quite awake yet.

2) On Friday night, I recieved a very welcome and fantastic email from Natalie at Nest (a new boutique shop in Penguin). She had featured Pili Pala in her shop last week and sent me some photos. Needless to say, I love how she has set it up and how it all came together. She even put my Peter and Paul tea-towels on a clothesline. So cute!

3) And last, but not least, Miriam and I have been working hard on putting the final touches on The Barn Market which promises to be another fun-filled, jam-packed event this Saturday. There is a very wide range of products on this time and we are really proud of the wares on offer and the stallholders involved. Don't miss out; come to the Rosny Barn (between Eastlands and the rosny golf course) between 10.00 and 3.00 on Saturday. See you there!

Peter and Paul and the Little Red Girl

Peter and Paul groomed thier feathers for a photo shoot yesterday in preparation for Salamanca Market tomorrow. After last week I felt that there was some 'jujjing' that was in need. So, the improvements will be - a black tablecloth for more 'pop' with the products, 3 BIG photos (check above and below) and just one long trestle table at the front of the marquee. I'm keen to see how it goes this time!

I'm also really excited to be parading my new acrylic window pendants and Tasmanian blackwood window pendants (below - I'm slightly in love with this one and may not be able to sell it!) for the first time. I have been working on both of these pieces for such a long time and are pleased that just a few are ready for me to sell (fingers crossed) tomorrow.

So, I need your help!! I am in love with my vintage green meatsafe which has served as my pendant display unit for some time now. However, I have recently had several people tell me that it needs to be painted black so that my products stand out more. I'm normally not one to dismiss advice to help sell my products, but there is something about my lovely green meatsafe that I just don't want to mess with. But then again, if it will grab the attention of more customers..... ooooooooooooohhhhhhhhh, decisions!!

Paint the safe, paint the safe not, paint the safe, paint the safe not ..... Please tell me what to do!

Peter and Paul go on show at Salamanca Market!

After many, many months of waiting to see if we got in, and then finally being accepted, we had our very first stall at the famous Salamanca Market on Saturday. And what a day it was! I lost all feeling in my fingers for at least 3 hours, and was laughed at by customers and Mirri (Jasmine Rose) alike for my incapacity to write, handle money and package products. But, nothing was going to stop me soaking up the vibe! There was a lot of interest and many a business card handed out and overall it was a very decent day for our first attempt. I think some minor stall set-up changes are in order - its a whole different thing to selling at an inside, cosy market!

The most exciting this was that my 'Two little dickie birds' tea-towel and tote-bag range was finally complete and up for the taking. Peter and Paul were strutting their stuff and grabbed the attention (and a giggle or two) of many a passer-by! It does bring back memories and a smile to your face.

Another Northern Tassie Stockist

I now have 2 reasons to head up north some time soon, as I have picked up another stockist; this time in Burnie. Indigo House has been successfully running for sometime now, and they even have a shop online facility!! They stock a wide range of products including homewares, jewellery (that's where I come in!), accessories, body products, and in general some nice little gifts for yourself or others. Check out some of the photos of the shop below - I love colour coordinated merchandising!!!

And one more piece of exciting news for Pili Pala; I'll be at Salamanca Market for the first time this Saturday and I can't wait!!! I'm praying for good weather, at least for this first one, so I can sort everything else out like putting that marquee up, table set-up, crowd flow, how to have a toilet break when you are by yourself, and finally, and most important - whether to wear a bum bag with the float or not?? No, the more I think about it, I can't bring myself to do that! I'll have to come up with another safe option for my float - any suggestions???

Handmade Hobart this Saturday and Sunday

Well, off to market again. These markets keep coming hard and fast and I am finding myself very busy. This weekend I am off to Handmade Hobart Market at St. Peter's Hall (crn Brisbane and Harrington streets) on both Saturday and Sunday; 10.00 - 3.00 both days. Along with several of my regular market buddies (Notions, Ruby Victoria, Elf Dreams, Hiiragi, Loopee Designs, Silver Nutmeg and a Golden Pear, Sunday's Child, the list goes on) there will be several stallholders that I don't know, but keen to check out.

A New Stockist

Hip Hip Hooray for another stockist; this time a new shop that has opened in Penguin. Nest (love the name!) opened last week and Nat (the owner) reports that it recieved a good reception. My Mothers family comes from Penguin so Mum is a little chuffed that I now have a stockist there and thinks its a great excuse for us to visit next time she is over.

If you are up in Penguin, definitely check it out - it looks amazing. I'm hanging out to pop in!!

I managed to capture a quiet moment (very rare indeed!)

What can I say about the Niche market except that it has certainly found it's niche up in Launceston. What an amazing market with a never ending flow of patrons. I had a very successful weekend up there and loved every minute of it. There were several familiar faces from Hobart selling thier wares and a tribe of stallholders that were new to me. I was just a tad excited to finally meet the face behind the amazing brand Dick and Dora and to touch some of thier products in real life (I have been following thier success for a while now).

I was very lucky to be placed next to Abi from Oliv who makes beautiful kids T-shirts with a massive array of designs on them. She was SO SO popular and I am slightly in awe of her brand, customer relation skills and the way she has built up her business. She gave me a few pointers throughout the two days (when we had time to breath) and I look forward to recieving more advice from her in the future. You can check her out at Salamanca each week - and while we are on Salamanca; we got in!!! YAY!!! I can't wait to get down there; bring it on. I'll post on the blog when each time we get in!

And finally, I was thrilled to introduce my new range of screen printed tea-towels. This has been a LONG time coming, with me planning these designs in about September last year and now only just getting them to print. Unfortunately, I only had one of my 4-step story ready to sell, but was so keen to test the waters and see how they went. And, to my relief, they sold like a charm and were very popular - in fact, I sold out!!!

So, please make welcome; 'Come back Paul' (soon to be joined by 'Fly away Peter', 'Fly away Paul' and 'Come back Peter' - how did you guess?!). At the moment they will only be available on tea-towels but my dream is to sell them on tote bags and boutique cushions as well. What do you think of Paul??

Busy busy beaver but always time for a game!!

At the end of this week I will again be heading to Launceston for another market. This time I will be selling at Niche Market; of which I have heard an abundance of high recommendations and fabulous feedback. Miriam (Jasmine Rose) my regular 'market buddy' is due to have her baby next Monday, so we felt it was more than a little neccessary for her to remain home in Hobart near to the hospital incase her bubs makes an appearance. So, this will be my first market by myself and, not only that, but it runs for 2 days in a row!! Fingers crossed for a great turn-out. If you are in Launcestone, please pop in and help us spreaad the word; the market is actually also a fundraiser for St Giles, so there are no excuses really!

So obviously I have been busy, busy, making, making, but not so hard that I couldn't have a little fun in the backyard with my new game. My husband and I visited Finland about 3 years ago and stayed with a Finnish friend. Whilst there he took us to his parents cottage, complete with a sauna (which is as common as a toilet in Finland), and we played 'Molkky' (pronounced 'melkoo' kind of, with an accent). It basically consists of throwing a short wooden plank at 12 other numbered wooden planks with a little bit of stratergy and skill thrown in. It was so much fun. Anyway, my husband walked past Funky Homes the other day and discovered that they had the game (marketed as 'Klop'; probably a little easier for Aussie's to pronounce) and he got it for me as my mothers day present. As happens every time, my husband couldn't wait until mothers day and gave it to me on the weekend; needless to say we had a lot of fun. Dean = 2, Helen = 1, hhmmm!! Bit rusty perhaps??!! I highly recommend this game; it's kind of like bowls but with throwing - I did say 'kind of'!!!

The second Barn Market and a new stockist...

Well, thats another Barn Market done and dusted and what a day it was!! Again (to our relief) there was a surplus of people milling around and soaking up the atmosphere. This time the rain stayed away and Mirri and I enjoyed the opportunity of selling from within our new marquee - it was like a little shop in a box. Having fresh air and a little more room (and one table each, instead of sharing) was a bit of a luxury. We again had great days in terms of sales, even though it was hard to keep our mind on the job of selling with so much else to run around and organise. It was definitely less stressful than last time, although setting up marquees was a little time consuming (it was our first time) but something that surely gets better with practise. It was great to be right next to Helen from Tas Fudge and chat and laugh with her throughout the day. She must have thought we were a little bit scatty because we were both in and out of our stall like bee's on a mission!

We're already looking forward to the next one (Saturday 5th June) and got some amazing suggestions from patrons and stallholders about how to gradually make it an even more exciting event. Thank you for everyone's support and a special thanks to our lovely stallholders who presented thier goods so beautifully and are so happy to chat to us throughout the day.

I'd also like to make a special mention of Hope and Me in the quadrant in Launceston who is a new stockist of mine. If you are in Launceston, make sure you pop in because its a very sweet little shop with a lot of very tempting goods on offer. Lindi has come back for her second order and my products are selling well for her which makes me one very happy little pili pala (butterfly). Check out some photos of her beautiful store.

The Barn Market - this weekend

I can't believe its come around again so quickly!! Miri and I have been very busy organising the market and are this time we're excited to have stallholders spilling out into the courtyard - including yours truly. We've also got our very popular buskers back from last time, in addition to a few new faces, and - this is what I'm most excited about - a bakery serving a range of baked goods (mmmmmmm a slight weakness of mine) such as slices, cakes, scones, breads, and even pre-made rolls.

I'm very keen to test-drive our new marquee which we picked up for half price at Anaconda - although we are having difficulty finding sides to go on it, so the poor little marquee may have to go naked on Saturday (I hope the rain stays away).

If you have a chance, please come along and support all the stallholders and enjoy a lovely little outing at The Barn. There's also a great art exhibition on in the schoolhouse (the next building over). The market is open between 10.00 - 3.00, and if you want to attend a makers demonstration on the ins and outs of mosaics, come at 11.00 or 1.00. Hoping to see you there.

New Stockist - with a view

Introducing a new stockist: The Mill Providore and Gallery on the waters edge in Launceston.

After a lovely day at the Civic Homespun market on Saturday I had an appointment with Becky from The Mill to discuss an opportunity for Pili Pala Pieces to be an exhibitor at an exhibition in the gallery later in the month. So, after selecting products that would suit the 'Eat the View' title of the exhibition, Becky proceeded to choose a range of products to sell in the shop. And, might I say, a very lovely shop at that. Being foreign to Launceston I was not aware of The Mill prior to our visit, but it is definitely a stop I will be making each time I go up. The Mill has an array of gourmet delicacies including meats, cheeses, breads, etc, in addition to cooking products and accessories and a selection of gifts (including jewellery, which is where PPP comes in).

So, all in all it was a fruitful and enjoyable trip to the North - and now I have a very sound excuse to make even more trips up that way.

Girls trip to Launceston

I am putting the last goodies into my little overnight bag for a trip to Launceston with Mirri (from Jasmine Rose) as we head off to the Civic Homespun Market. We are very excited about the prospect of a different location and new market (well for us anyway - we've never ventured this far from home for a market).

We're also just a little bit excited to be staying overnight tonight at Grindleworld (well, we didn't really want to leave at 5.30am on Saturday morning, so we treated ourselves a little!! "Mirri is pregnant you know!")

The other exciting thing is that we have a few new (and when I say new I mean old) product display items, and the one I'm most excited about is a vintage green metal meatsafe that I scored at the Sorell markets a few weeks ago. Unfortunately my camera has stopped working (thanks to my lovely little miss) and so I can't take a photo of it, but it looks something like the photo above.

We've decided to branch out a little and put in some travel time in the name of all things crafty. So, next weekend we will be heading to Launceston to take part in the Civic Homespun Market to see what kind of reception we get from the locals. Since moving to Hobart 6 years ago I haven't spent much time in Launceston, but every time I do go I fall in love with it again. It oozes charm and has an appealing arty atmosphere with a lot of class. So, I can't wait! Now, because we are going camping this weekend (hooray another long weekend!) I need to start getting ready for the market.

Funky Homes Website

The Barn Market

Well, as you can tell from my slightly tardy post, The Barn Market took a little bit out of me but it was sooooo worth it. Miriam and I were very relieved when people started pouring in the doors on Saturday morning, despite the rain. It was great meeting all the stall holders and seeing their beautiful products and then watching the customers admire them as well. It was a whole different ball game not only selling our products but ensuring that the market ran smoothly, and I loved every minute of it. And I absolutely loved the background Irish music which kept a little jig in my step and kept many of us feeling upbeat.

Mirri and I would like to thank all the stall holders for presenting their lovely products so beautifully and being so fantastic to interact with throughout the day. To the buskers, fundraising BBQ group and coffee van, we'd also like to thank you for adding those extra little special touches to the day. Finally we would like to thank the community for showing their support and interest in an event such as this on the eastern shore.

Our next market is in April, and I can't wait.

Counting Down

Miriam and I are counting down and frantically getting all the last little bits and pieces ready for The Barn Market this weekend. We have had a great response from the public and potential stallholders and are expecting lots of people for the first ever Barn Market on Saturday.

Meanwhile, amoungst all things management for The Barn Market, I have been trying to get some products ready to actually sell at our own stall.

The Barn Market on the eastern shore

I am pleased to announce the Miriam Grice (from Jasmine Rose Boutique) and I will be starting a boutique craft market on the Eastern Shore. Aptly named 'The Barn Market' it will operate out of the Rosny Barn next to the Rosny golf course and Eastlands. We spent many hours procrastinating trying to concieve a clever name for the market, and realised that in the end it would probably still be called 'The Barn Market' or 'you know, that market in the Barn', so why make it clever when it can just be simple. We are hoping to offer the people of Hobart, and more specifically the eastern shore, a selection of unique and high quality local art and craft products with a smattering of good coffee, fine food and produce (such as fruit 'n' veg and cut flowers).

We will open the doors for the first Barn Market on the 13th February from 10.00 - 3.00 and we are still looking for stallholders. If you would like more information check out the blog; www.thebarnmarket.blogspot.com.

Merry Christmas

Its been a very busy year for Pili Pala Pieces with my products slowly taking off, and now I am even stocked in 2 shops!! Have a look at the ad for Funky Homes that was in the Mercury last Friday - thats me in the top right hand corner!! Who would have thought?! I am also pleased to announce that Content in Launceston is stocking my products too. I hope to be expanding my stockists, and product range, in the new year.

I want to wish everyone a very Merry Christmas; thanks for all of your support throughout the year. I can't wait for what next year will bring, and I am especially looking forward to attending many of the markets that seem to never stop popping up around Hobart and beyond. The Marvellous 'The Market'

With weary eyes and sore muscles I can happily report that 'The Market' on Sunday was an absolute, unmistakable, fantasmagorical success!!! Mirri and I started setting up at 8am (yawn!) on Sunday and were very pleased with how our stall ended up looking. It took a few minutes after 10am for the flood of people to begin and we hardly took a breath until the lunch time lull (and when I say 'lull' I mean only half a dozen people at the stall as opposed to 15 or so!) It was so nice to have friends and family visit and to meet so many people - you could definitely feel the festive vibe in the air as people were cheerfully gathering gifts for loved ones (and a few for themselves as well).

Thank you so much to 'The Market' for providing such an amazing avenue for Tasmanian handcrafts and products. We can't wait for what next year will bring at 'The Market'.

Christmas stall at The Beach Market

Here is a sneak peek at one of the Christmas ribbon designs that I will be selling at the markets. They are made of christmassy fabric and add a special touch to any gift. You don't have to worry about shopping for classy Christmas paper as these ribbons will dress up any old wrapping. Actually, the plainer the paper the better; try them on newspaper or brown butchers paper.

Its the crazy time of year and getting closer to the Christmas markets. Mirri (from Jasmine Rose) and I are gearing up to share a stall at both The Beach Markets and The Market in about 2 weeks time. So, I have been working like a little crazy bee trying to get enough stock to supply both markets which will be full of Christmas shoppers.

Above are some of the buttons I have been making for hair slides, hair ties, magnets and some new products too, like brooches, earings and rings. Check back over the next two weeks as I list some of my special Christmas products. Its all very exciting and its really is getting close - I even saw Santa today when I was doing the shopping!

We love love love this market; it has a great atmosphere, amazing crafts and such friendly people. We would love to see you there at 'The Market' at the Masonic Hall this Sunday (4th Oct) between 10.00 and 3.00.

I can't wait to showcase the new vintage fabric-covered buttons I have. I managed to scrounge some vintage fabric from my Grandmother who is having a 'little bit' (slight under-exaggeration) of a cleanout - some pieces she estimates to be up to 60 years old. Also, I have some new pendants with beautiful vintage images on them; I'm going slightly 'vintage' crazy!

'The Market'

We just had another really successful day at 'The Market' today. Like last time it was buzzing with people and full of an amazing and interesting range of crafts and products. From all reports today's customers were really happy with the variety of products and the goodies they came away with. Today the big sellers for me were my scrabble tile pendants and my fabric covered button hair ties and hair slides. Its such a relief to know that people actually like what you do and want to spend their money on something you have put so much time in to.

We will be back at 'The Market' on the first Sunday in October, but in the meantime, we will definatly be trying our luck at getting into a few of the other markets out there.

We're back at 'The Market' this coming weekend at the Masonic Hall on Sandy Bay Road. We had an amazing and very busy time last time we were there and can't wait for Sunday. Come and check it out between 10.00 and 3.00, there will be a range of local artist and crafters and theres always some yummy treats to tantalise your tastebuds - last time they had pikelets, mmm. I've been working hard and have a wider range of fabric covered buttons and a lot of new designs for my scrabble tile pendants. All Saints Market

Well, thats another market to notch up. My friend Mirri, from Jasmine Rose Boutique, and I shared a stall at All Saints Church Market in South Hobart. We had a great spot in a building behind the church. It was a reasonably busy day and great to hear the feedback from all who passed through. We will definatly be going again, but maybe in summer when its a bit warmer and we can have an outside stall.

After many requests I have finally made the leap into having my own little piece of the web where people can see what I do and contact me with questions or requests.

This Saturday you will find me at a market held at All Saints Church in South Hobart. It runs from 9.00 - 2.00 and should be lots of fun. Apparently they have quite a good Op Shop as well, so it might be a struggle between selling and buying!
